Top tips on how to pot a plant in your hand painted pot

Are you wondering about the best way to pot a plant in your new hand painted pot without damaging it?

Here are my top tips on how to pot a plant in your hand painted pot worry free.

There are two ways you can pot a plant in your hand painted pot.

  1. Pot the plant with its nursery pot into your hand painted pot - (Recommended)

Keep the plant in its nursey pot

Keeping your plant in the nursery pot will not only make your pot last long but also allow you to change the different plants around. You can shift the plant to a bigger pot once it grows.

Water the plant in its nursery pot

Watering your plant outside the hand painted pot keeping it in its nursery pot. This will help keep your new pot good as new because there will be no water or soil touching the pot directly.

Decorate with pebbles

Spread some pebbles at the bottom and over the top of the nursery pot surrounding the plant so that the nursery pot placed inside will not be visible. The plant will look like its planted inside the pot. The pebbles at the bottom will help protect the saucer from water leaking through the drainage hole. This will keep the pot in a great condition in a long run.

2. Plant directly into the hand painted pot using some of my top care tips.

If you are choosing this method, I would recommend that you choose the plants that do not need a lot of water. For example: Succulents/Cacti are the best option for hand painted pots. Another big thing to make sure is that the plant you choose will not grow out of the pot. If the plant grows out of the pot, then you will need to replace it with another plant. This excessive handling of your hand painted pot will affect the longevity of your new pot.

Pot the plant directly into your hand painted pot

Put some pebbles at the bottom of the pot before putting soil on top. Then pot the plant as usual with soil surrounding the plant. Spread some pebbles on top surrounding the plant.

Separate the saucer before watering

Make sure that you separate the saucer from the pot before watering your plant so that the excess water will not drip onto it. While both the pot and the saucer are primed and sealed thoroughly, watering the plant this way will keep your pot good as new longer.

Use water spray to water the plant

The best way to water the plant planted directly into the hand painted pot is by spraying water onto the plant instead of pouring. This way the water will not drip onto the saucer.

Wipe Excess water

Wipe any excess water immediately so that the paints of your hand painted pot will last long. Wipe gently without rubbing too much using a soft tissue.

Watch the drips

Make sure that you check the bottom of the pot for any water dripping. Once the water stops dripping, you can put the pot back onto the saucer. You can put a baking paper just under the drainage hole for additional protection of the saucer in case the water keeps dripping.

With these basic tips and care, your hand painted pot should remain good as new for longer! Happy planting..!!!
